अती शाण्यांक फातरां शीत

The over smart will be served rice made of stone. 


अती थंय माती

Too much of anything will lead you to muck. 


अडलो हरी गाढवाचे पांय धरी

A helpless person will fall at the donkey’s feet. 


आंदळे दळटात, कुत्रे पीठ खातात

The blind are milling the flour while the dogs are eating it. 


आंदळ्या भितर कुड्डो राजा

In the world of fools, even the little knowledgeable person is considered as a king.


आपलें घर हागून भर, आपलें घर सत्तेन मर, दुसर्‍याचें घर थुकूंक जड

A person is a master only in his or her own house.


आपूण गेल्या बगर सर्ग दिसना

One cannot see heaven without going there themselves.

There is no success without pain or trouble.


आपूण बरें तर जग बरें

If one is good, then all are good.


आयत्या बिळांत नागोबा

People take advantage of the goodness of others.


आयत्यार कोणूय कोयतो मारीत.

It is easy to work on something that somebody else has already worked on.


आंवाळो दिवन कुंवाळो घेवप

To exchange a gooseberry for a good pumpkin.

People take undue advantage of a generous person.


आले भाव, कोले भाव

Near relations are like foxes.

Your own people deceive you but relationship with others is more valued.


उखल्ली जीब लायली ताळ्याक

People at times talk without thinking.


उज्यांत तेल ओंतप

Adding insult to injury.


उतराक वीस भेद

A person tends to give many excuses to avoid their responsibilities.


एक जीव सदाशिव

One is content being alone and not depending on others.


एका पाखान मोर जायना

One should accept one’s limitations.


एका लग्नाक बारा विघ्नां

One marriage has twelve troubles.

When a person tries to do something good, many hardships come his way.


एका हातान ताळी वाजना

We need assistance of others when we undertake any task. One cannot do work single handedly.


एका कानान आयकुचें, दुसर्‍या कानान सोडून दिवचें

One should not ponder too much over things or matters or what people say about them.


कान फूंक म्हणल्यार वान फुंकता

When a person is asked to do a specific job, does something else.


कामा पुरतो मामा

People in general are good to us when they want a favour from us. When the need is met, they do not bother about us.


कोणाचो राग कोणाचेर काडटा

Some people have the tendency to express their anger on innocent people.


कोणाच्यो म्हशी, कोण काडटा उटाबशी

The she buffaloes belongs to others, but someone else is taking the trouble.

Other people worries are not our concern.


करूंक हांव, न्हेसूंक तूं?

I work, your dress up.

One does the work and other takes the credit for it.


घरच्या मोगर्‍यांक परमळ ना

People do not give importance to what is their own but give undue importance to what is of others.


चाकरी केल्यार भाकरी मेळटा

If one works, one earns bread.

One should earn by the sweat of one’s brow.


चणे आसल्यार दांत ना, दांत आसल्यार चणे ना.

In life, people do not get everything they desire perfectly and at a proper time.


दांतूय आपले, ओंठूय आपले

It becomes difficult to give judgement where relations are concerned.


दाम करी काम

When a person has money, he is able to get any work done.


फाटीर मार पूण पोटार मारूं नाका

One should not deprive others of their livelihood.


फेस्त करता गांव, पिरजेंतीचें नांव

Village celebrates feast, the President is applauded for the feast.

Undue credit is often given to those in authority, though hard work is done by others.


बर्‍याक गेल्यार फाटीर येता

If we go to do good to somebody, he turns against you.

The ignorant do not know the value of the good shown to them.

Twelve Thursdays and thirteen Fridays.

As the seed, so is the paddy.

People in life get what they work for. As you sow, so shall you reap.

We know the value of people or things only after they are dead or when we lose them. People give lavish praises to the dead.

Everyone digs where the mud is soft.

People take advantage of others kindness.

Cooked rice is the test of the kind of paddy.

A single action of a person reveals his or her character.


सुनेक दाखोवचें धुवेक खावोवचें

Showing to the daughter-in-law and giving to the daughter to eat.

This is used when people want to tease others.


हांडीर आसा चेडो, सोदता सगलो वाडो

Some people look for things all over the place when they actually have them in their hands.


हांसता ताचे दांत दिसतात.

The one who laughs, his teeth are seen.

When a person criticises others, his motive is known.
